The University of Regina Students’ Union (URSU) respects that the decision made by the University of Regina to deliver classes remotely for the Fall term is in the best interest of safety for everyone, as they have said, the situation is “fluid” and the university has committed itself to follow the advice of health professionals in guiding its decisions about the fall semester. The University’s announcement regarding the fall semester is unclear and contains little information. It is an ongoing situation, so it is hard to give a cohesive response.
URSU is frustrated that we have not been invited to the table in any Covid-19 contingency or preparedness planning meetings. URSU seeks to be represented in the discussions about how the university plans to move forward during these challenging times. The announced Academic Incremental Recovery (AIR) group, which is chaired by Interim Provost Dr. david Gregory supposedly has “broad campus representation”. We hope to be invited to participate in AIR to reflect the diverse needs of the students and to mitigate the challenges URSU will face operationally and financially as a result of a possible campus closure. The participation of URSU will have a significant impact in dealing with the students’ needs in a more in-depth manner.
