URSU Health &
Dental Plan
To help University of Regina students pay for the health services they need, URSU has partnered with Gallivan in order to provide students with extended health and dental coverage. The Plan is designed specifically to fill the gaps in the provincial health care system (Saskatchewan Health Authority) and other basic healthcare programs.

You can further enhance your benefits by visiting health professionals who are members of the Dental, Vision, Physiotherapy, and Massage Therapy Networks. You are covered for the insured portion regardless of the health professional you choose. By consulting a Network member, you will get additional coverage. For example, by visiting a Dental Network member, you will receive an additional 20% off dental services.

How do I opt-out, opt-in or add family to my coverage?
For the Fall Semester:
Eligible students will be charged the fee and automatically enrolled see Eligibility criteria.
Opt-Out – (Permanent or Annual)
You may choose to opt-out, if you have comparable alternative coverage, such as a spouse, parents, or employer plan. (Note: Saskatchewan Health or International Emergency Insurance are not considered comparable alternative coverage). Your optout can be:
- Permanent – you remain opted out for future terms until you apply and pay to re-enrol.
- Annual – you are opted out for the current benefit year only.
NOTE: If you are covered by another health and/or dental plan, you can coordinate all plans to maximize your overall coverage. See Coordination of Benefits. All opt-outs must be completed before the applicable deadline. No exceptions will be made if deadline is missed.
Opt-In
If you previously opted out, you may apply and pay to opt-in.
Any student not charged the fees may be eligible to apply and pay to opt-in, see Eligibility criteria. Opt-in does not carry forward, you must re-apply and pay in futures years, as applicable.
All opt-ins must be completed before the applicable deadline. No exceptions will be made if deadline is missed.
Family add-on
If you are enrolled in the health and dental plans, you are eligible, to add, your spouse, and/or your dependent children in the Plan. Family add-on does not carry forward, you must re-apply and pay every fall. All add-ons must be completed before the applicable deadline.

Coverage period will be September 1 to August 31 the following year.
For the Winter Semester:
New students or students who did not take classes in the Fall semester are not automatically charged or enrolled in the Health and Dental plans, you may be eligible to opt-in to the URSU Health and Dental Plan. see Eligibility criteria.
Opt-Out
Not allowed in the Winter/Spring/Summer terms. Only Fall term Opt-outs allowed.
Opt-In
All New eligible students who wish to be enrolled in the plans starting January 1, must apply, and pay before the applicable deadline.
Family add-on
New students who enrol, are eligible, to add, your spouse, and/or your dependent children in the Plan. Family add-on does not carry forward, you must re-apply and pay every time in future academic terms, when eligible.

Enrollment Period is from December 1 to deadline of January 17, 2025. No exceptions will be made if deadline is missed.
Coverage period will be January 1 to August 31.
Lifestyle changes and/or loss of benefits Students who previously opted out and have a lifestyle change (marriage, new baby,) or lose their coverage, may apply within 30 days of the date of change or loss of benefits. Proof will be required. Fees will be prorated, and plan will start the 1st day of the month of date of change or loss of benefits.

Important to note:
If you are NOT automatically enrolled in the Fall Semester you may be eligible to opt-in before the applicable deadline: Please check your student financial account to confirm if you have been charged the ‘Health Fee’ and the ‘Dental Fee’.
New Winter term students or students who did not start in the Fall term are not automatically enrolled and if eligible may opt-in before the applicable deadline.
Spring and Summer students will need to wait until the next Fall semester to get coverage.
Only eligible Fall students are automatically charged the fees and enrolled.
The Plan fee for full-year coverage (September 1 – August 31). if $218.50 ($98.30 for health coverage and $120.20 for dental coverage)
If not charged the fees, please see the eligibility criteria as you may be able to opt-in prior to any applicable deadline.
New winter start students and students who did not attend in the fall and meet the eligibility criteria.
Not charged the fee or automatically enrolled, must apply and pay to enrol before the applicable deadline.
The Plan fee for students who enrol in the Winter semester (January 1 – August 31) is $145.45 ($65.32 for health coverage and $80.13 for dental coverage).
