URSU Computer Rehoming Initiative
You know what’s worse than sending in an assignment last minute? Trying to send it in last minute and have it say “Estimated Upload Time: Eternity”.
Technology is great except when it’s not and that’s when it won’t start, takes forever to start, or won’t stop breaking. It’s especially great for reading, researching, and writing, except when your computer is slower than a pen dipped in molasses. The use of technology is an important element in a student’s academic journey. This is even more prevalent as more and more courses are offered online. The University of Regina Students’ Union (URSU) understands the challenges faced by students and that not all students may have the necessary resources to acquire up-to-date computer hardware to enable them to succeed.
Below are some details on the Computer Rehoming Initiative, for the full policy please click here.
- Every student is eligible to apply to receive a free computer.
- Students that receive a computer under this policy may not apply again within eighteen (18) months of receipt of their previously allotted computer.
- Applications must be submitted via the approved application form found on the Qpay student engagement platform.
- Applications will be prioritized based on need.
- Applications will be vetted by the Student Advocate (or designate) who may contact the applicant for further information if required.
With help from the Electronic Recycling Association (ERA), URSU is able to provide its members with refurbished computers for free, thereby helping them get the most out of their educational investment. This program can assist those students that have a demonstrated need for an equipment upgrade. Some students’ current computers are objectively inadequate for more than the most basic educational assignments. These technological limitations can impact the ability of our members to succeed on their educational journeys. Financial limitations can force students to choose between groceries that are healthy and getting online reliably.
