To our membership,
During the 2023 By-Elections issues around the legitimacy of two nominations were brought to the attention of URSU. Immediately these nominations were deemed invalid and were not allowed on the ballot. After an internal investigation, with the assistance of Campus Security via CCTV footage, it was discovered that an URSU Executive, Birpartap Singh, and Hill Business School Events Manager, Gurjinder Singh, acted in bad faith breaking many URSU policies, bylaws, and code of conduct. These actions jeopardized the legitimacy of URSU’s free and fair democratic elections wherein student and URSU staff signatures were forged.
During the investigation Birpartap Singh resigned his executive position at URSU. Additionally URSU has removed the memberships of Birpartap Singh and Gurjinder Singh.
URSU wishes to apologize to the students, and staff that were taken advantage of by these two bad faith actors within our organization. We will continue to act in accordance with the principles of accountability, transparency, and integrity to our members. We have been in communication with the Carillon which is working toward coverage on the topic to be published in the near future.
If you feel you may have been unknowingly mislead, or need more clarifications please reach out to us at chair@ursu.ca and we will be happy to answer any queries we can.
