Sharing on behalf of the University of Regina, for more information please visit www.uregina.ca/covid-19/:
Dear members of the University community,
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic to date, the University of Regina, together with partner institutions and in consultation with public health and Saskatchewan’s Chief Medical Health Officer, has worked to safeguard students, faculty, and staff.
We are now developing principles and protocols that will guide a cautious approach to Fall 2020 course delivery.
The safety of all – students, faculty, staff, their families, and the broader community – remains paramount. Fall 2020 course delivery will therefore be aligned with the public health guidelines established by the province’s Chief Medical Health Officer.
As of today, 12 May, a continuation of the remote delivery we are now using offers students in the Fall term the best chance of academic success as we navigate the rapidly changing landscape of the global pandemic.
The situation is fluid, changing daily. As it changes, we will communicate with you.
Over the next several weeks, comprehensive work on Fall term course delivery will continue. This work will be carried out by the Academic Incremental Recovery (AIR) group, which is chaired by Interim Provost David Gregory and has broad campus representation.
We will build on efforts made and knowledge gained since the emergence of COVID-19 in the province. We will also ensure there is the flexibility to manage the risks of the pandemic while protecting the health and safety of all. Our first responsibility is a safe environment for students, faculty and staff. Much work remains. Unexpected developments in the pandemic could require adjustments to timelines and details of course delivery. I am confident that our consultations and planning will yield a delivery model that meets teaching, learning, and research needs while keeping people safe.
Again, as they become known, more details about Fall 2020 course delivery will be communicated.
I want to take this opportunity again to thank all members of the University community for their hard work and patience in uncertain times. Your commitment to students, and your care for the wellbeing of all Saskatchewan people, are deeply appreciated.
Sincerely,
Thomas Chase
Interim President and Vice-Chancellor
