MOVING FORWARD: A message from your URSU President
The Board of Directors of the University of Regina Students’ Union (URSU) recently decided to part ways with the previous General Manager, Carl Flis. We thank Carl Flis for his time with URSU and the work he was able to do while with the union. We wish him the best in his future endeavours.
URSU is now going through a rebuilding phase, and we are looking at ways to create a union that will reconnect with all students in a very meaningful and positive manner. Our commitment to serving students is stronger than ever, and we look forward to working with our members to ‘re-emerge’ from this transitional phase into a stronger, more open and more representative union than we have ever been. URSU thanks its members for their patience and understanding as we work towards representing and serving students in the best way possible. The Board has made a constructive plan on the selection committee, which includes the members from the current and incoming Board. According to URSU’s organizational structure, staff reports to the General Manager, and the General Manager reports to the President. As the General Manager role is currently vacant, the Board has appointed myself in the role for the purpose of clarifying the organizational structure until another person is placed within that role with legal consultation. The role has been taken up without additional compensation and with the operational support of the Executive Committee and the management team. The Executive Committee is monitoring this temporary arrangement very closely, and if it does not appear to be working, we will make additional changes.
We assure you all of the smooth continuity of URSU’s daily operations and its direction to support our students. We are committed to working toward the betterment of our fellow students.
Sincerely,
Gurjinder Singh Lehal
President & Interim General Manager,
University of Regina Students’ Union
