Clothing Drive Means Business

URSU Threads Helps Students Make an Impressive Impression

During URSU Sustainability Week 2017 (Nov. 6-8^th), the University of Regina Students’ Union put on a clothing drive to collect gently used male and female professional attire for students at the UofR. In addition to giving students a chance to look their best, the goal of the drive was to extend the life of the clothes collected so students could gain an appreciation for reusing items. With the help of students, staff and faculty at the University of Regina, along with the generosity of community members, URSU was able to take in over 400 items and stock the racks of the URSU Threads program.

On November 15^th and 16^th URSU set up shop in the Rainbow Pit of the Education Building so students could browse the selection of suits, shirts, pants and ties. Members of URSU VIP and UR Peers Helping Peers were on hand to help students coordinate items and come up with awesome outfits! Local media were on hand as students browsed the racks to find something stylish in their size.

The URSU Threads wardrobe has also been made available at the URSU Cares Pantry days, allowing students to get some professional attire while they pick up essentials like fruit, vegetables, other food items, and toiletries. To sign up for the pantry program (and receive a new suit) you can email member.services@ursu.ca. Students can also find an assortment of items at the First Nations University of Canada in the Student Success Services office (located on the main floor of the FNUniv Regina campus, to the right of the of the information desk).

URSU is accepting donations throughout the year for URSU Threads but now the focus shifts to its Winter Clothing Drive. From Dec. 4th-8th, URSU will be collecting donated winter clothing to give to the needy in Regina and seeking the assistance of UofR faculties and department! Keep an eye out for Santa (URSU President Jermain McKenzie), he’ll be on campus early looking for your help to fill the bins as URSU gives the gift of warmth from our campus to the community.
