The 2010 fall semester has been an event-filled one, to say the least.   Not only did the semester officially kick off with Welcome Week festivities, but students quickly became immersed in the campus-wide CFS referendum.

It was great to see so many people involved in the referendum process.  Although student political issues have not historically produced large voter turnout, through the CFS referendum, students showed they are active members of the U of R community by breaking this trend.  We, collectively, were also able spark the interest in both the communities of Regina, and Southern Saskatchewan.

Regardless of the outcome of the referendum, members of the University of Regina Students’ Union have illustrated that we are all champions.  We communicated with one another over a central theme.  We built relationships with fellow URSU members that we may have never had the opportunity to meet otherwise.  We also, most importantly, engaged one another in one of the most tangible and important questions that we as students have been asked to answer in recent history of the University of Regina.

I would like to say thank you to all of those involved, on both sides, as this referendum illustrated how apathy can be mitigated.  Although official results have yet to be posted, URSU will ensure that it lets students know about what the end result of the referendum was.  For updates, make sure to check out www.referendumoversightcommittee.ca.

Sincerely,

Kyle Addison
